Comfort in environmental extremes

The Australian outback is one of the harshest environments on earth, a land of extremes with searing daytime heat, subzero nights and flash floods.

In this extreme environment, generations of Australian bushman have come to rely on the convenience and comfort of a SWAG or traditional Aussie bush bed for a good nights sleep.

An outback SWAG is like a bedroll but provides much more – complete shelter, comfort in extreme hot or cold conditions and protection from bugs and insects.

An outback SWAG will give decades of service and is ideal for anyone who needs a convenient, comfortable outdoor bed and shelter in one.

Key Features of the Superdome

Heritage

When we designed and released the first of the 'Superdome' swags, it set a new worldwide standard in swags, bringing them from the traditional bedroll type to what is undoubtedly the most popular design on the market today. With its simple, yet elaborate design the Dome swag offers quick and easy sleeping arrangements with its ease of setup, and the luxury of an insect free sleep.

Assembly care and instructions

Step 1 Choose your campsite carefully, ensure you choose a firm level area with no rocks or sticks that may damage the floor of your swag. Be wary of overhanging tree branches as falling limbs could also damage your swag.

Step 2 Unroll your swag, ensure valves on self-inflating mattress are open. Once fully inflated close the valves. If extra support is desired add extra air by blowing the mattress up a little more with your mouth.

Step 3 Assemble the 2 shock-corded support poles. Ensure pole joints are all the way in - if not, this may cause the pole to split at the end of the joint. Insert a Pin & Ring into the end of the head pole at the head of the swag, slowly curve the pole over and insert the other Pin & Ring. Suspend the swag with the plastic "C" hangers.

Step 4 Slide the lower pole through the sleeve approximately halfway down the swag. Place one end onto the Pin & Ring and push the pole from the opposite end - this will make the pole curve up into an arc. Place the other Pin & Ring into the pole.

Step 5 Use the guy rope provided to pull the head of the swag taught. Place a peg into the ground or tie your swag to a tree, vehicle bumper etc. for support. Your swag is now ready to use.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Before using your Swag for the first time it should be erected as described above and wet thoroughly 2-3 times and allowed to dry. Ensure that the top flap and windows are closed when wetting down. The wetting process will allow the canvas and stitching to shrink and take up. Some water may wick through the stitching during this process. If any wicking occurs in the future rub the seam with a wax stick to seal the area. Always make sure your swag is completely dry before packing it away.

DO NOT erect your swag close to a camp fire or in dry river or creek beds.

Canvas Care

We recommend that your new swag be thoroughly wet down before its first use. This will ensure that it performs well in wet weather by allowing the thread and canvas to swell ensuring the take up of any potential leaks in the stitching. Other tips:

  • Do not use soap or detergents on the canvas.
  • Do not store the product if it is wet.
  • Clean using a soft brush and cold water.
  • Do not expose to petrol, oils or other harsh solvents.

Condensation

Condensation is a natural occurrence in the confined area of a swag. This is due to the body releasing more moisture than the canvas can disperse in cold weather. To minimize the chance of condensation it is recommended that on cold nights you slightly open the window of your swag to increase airflow.
